Fennel, the "fish herb", is the preferred seasoning for fish, but its warm, sweet flavor is also excellent in meatballs, sausages, soups and stews. Try chewing on a seed or two to freshen the breath after meals (a common custom in India).
These seeds like other dried seeds may germinate under proper conditions. However, herb and spice seeds sold by Frontier are not intended for sprouting purposes and in many cases will not germinate.
A close relative of oregano, marjoram has a mild, delicate flavor that enhances soups, sauces, dressings, and meat and vegetable dishes. It also makes a delicious herb butter.
More robust than the familiar yellow mustard seed, brown mustard seed can be similarly used to flavor condiments, relishes, and pickles and to enliven everything from soups to casseroles. Its sharp aroma and fresh, pungent flavor work well in combination with other strong spices like chilies and black pepper.
