Brazil Nuts, Whole 44#
About Wricley Nut Products Co.
In the early 1940’s, Edward Comer was just a young boy helping his parents bag salted peanuts, in their store front, to sell to local bars and tap rooms. Upon his return from the Korean War, Edward fully devoted himself to growing the family business by expanding into the roasting of almonds, cashews and pecans. In the early 1960’s, Wricley Nut Products Co. outgrew its single room operation and Edward moved his maturing company to a three story red brick building in the middle of a neighborhood on Tasker Street, where the aroma of freshly roasted nuts became a neighborhood favorite.
In the 1970’s, the company started to handle dried fruits and developed some of the country’s first trail mixes. A decade later, the company migrated from roasting nuts in small batch sizes to roasting nuts on continuous roasting lines. After graduating from the University of Michigan in the late 1980’s, Edward’s son, Dan, started to work at Wricley Nut Products Co. full time, learning the business from the ground up. During the 1990’s, the company acquired expertise in the manufacture of nut butters: peanut, almond, and cashew butter. In 2007, Dan accepted full management of the company when Edward retired.
In July of 2015, Wricley Nut Products Co. celebrated its 60th anniversary. Wricley Nut Products Co. now occupies a one-story 58,000 square foot facility in South Philadelphia, with multiple roasters and nut butter mills. The company processes and distributes a wide range of products to snack food distributors and to ingredient purveyors. In 2017, the company became SQF certified to better meet the needs of its customers.
